I'm tring to test my Windows Phone 8 app on an actual device, but I need the IP Address of my computer in order to do this. When I type 'ipconfig' in the command prompt, it shows two different IPv4 addresses and I can't tell which is the correct one for my computer that will allow me to test the app on a device.

The address is different than the one the user sees when opening a command prompt and typing in ipconfig/all. The user does not understand why the two tools show different IP addresses. This is BEST explained by the interworking of: A . network devices B . packet flow C . public/private whatismyip.org will show you the address that your ISP has provided to you: this is the IP address that everyone else in the world can see, and the one that is blocked. I really appreciate your help Amit The if family of tools including ifconfig are being deprecated and replaced by the newer ip commands so you can use any one of the following from the command line to determine your IP address: sudo ip addr show or. sudo hostname --ip-address or if you still want to use ifconfig, and it is not already installed
I made that mistake here and could not reset the modem! But get the ip address on the desktop first if you have one. Should show like 192.168.1.1 and should show your ISP also. Once you get it there you should be able to see it on the laptop wireless and if not at first release and renew it on the laptop also. Hope that helps.

Now when you type "ipconfig /renew" you receive this message; "This operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation" My client really does not want to have me wipe out his machine to get it back working.

When you connect to Wi-Fi, you are usually given an IP address, and this process is performed by DHCP. The valid IP configuration issue means that something is wrong, and DHCP fails to receive a valid IP address. You can add a valid IP address manually to fix this problem - right-click on Start and select "Network Connections".
