if you set the wrt54gl to repeater bridge mode you can do the above quite happily without the need for the cable , as repeater bridge mode allows you to use the 4 lan ports and its also extends the wireless range at the same time follow my repeater bridge tutorial mentioned in the start of this tutorial see this image

My configuration would be DSL modem->wireless router host->repeater. At first, I have 1 WRT54GL with ddwrt v23 SP2 generic connected to the modem and it works fine. Note: Local IP for host is set at x.x.1.2 and repeater is x.x.1.4. Aug 29, 2012 · I'm just using straight repeater configuration, no bridge. Even in bone stock DD WRT configuration the WLAN port doesn't allow for control of the Linksys, only the four LAN ports do that. Of course I know just enough about networking to be a true danger to any network I might try to do anything with.

We use the Client bridge method to setup our DD-WRT as a repeater. By default, DD-WRT will have that mode for most of routers. On some routers, depending on the chipset they have, it will have the – repeater mode by default, which you can use that as well. Thank you for your time. I hope the post is useful to you.

For Network Mode, SSID, and Wireless Channel, set the same options as your primary router. If you want to use your old router to increase the range of your wireless network, choose "Repeater" for r14929 std is the only build I remember being mostly stable as a repeater. If you're using LAN cables in repeater mode, isn't that just a switch? (Not really repeating any thing). If you have the wireless router connection and using LAN cables on your remote device, you're in client bridge mode rather than repeater.

Another option is to use two wireless routers—one configured in Tomato client mode, connected by Ethernet to the second router, configured as an AP (access point). I have a Linksys WRT54Gx router with DD-WRT software working fine. But. Is it possible to use it as a Repeater Bridge when the host router isn't configured to be in the default 192.168.1.1 subnet?
